“DEVIR II” selected for two festivals

The music video for my track “Devir II” is in competition at the Black & White festival 2012 and will be screened at this year’s edition of Puff. A good motive to remind this amazing work.

In 2010 I was doing mastering for Black Bombaim’s first album. Two years later, they drop the second one (2LP) and I did alongside with Jonathan HHY an intro for one of the tracks. Check it.

Fancy name I know. Well, this is just an opportunity to share one of many traditional recipes one can make using Seitan instead of meat.
First of all we need to make some seitan!
Get wheat gluten, water and soya sauce. To make the seitan softer I usually add 50g of whole grain wheat flour (for 250g of gluten).
Slowly, mix the gluten and the flour with the water till it gets consistent. By the very end add the soya sauce.
Now there’s several ways to add some personality and taste to this. On this recipe I’ll focus on the afterwards of it.
Once it’s cold (and after c. 40 minutes of cooking) cut the seitan in slices and prepare it with:

red wine
garlic
laurel
salt
pepper and/or paprika
cumin
coriander

In Portuguese cuisine this is something called “vinha d’alhos”. I’m not really sure how’s the original recipe, so we’re improvising here. The main ingredients should be the first three though…
Leave the seitan with the sauce a couple of hours so that it gets tasty! After that you just need to braise it for 5min with oil and of course, the sauce.
Serve with brocoli rice, salad and some decent techno. And orange! The orange with the seitan is an amazing mix.

ARGONAUTA – ANTENA 2

The respectful Antena 2, a radio focused on classical musical forms, has dedicated an hour of it’s program to some of the work I have been developing. Argonauta is a radio show conducted by Jorge Carnaxide where some dark ambient sounds (people like Lustmord, Vangelis, etc) are usually featured. This session was builded up by Jorge using some soundtrack works with new spoken/poetry pieces. I also contributed with some personal commentaries about these. An unveiled show on the most important portuguese radio station can be listened here.
As a way of celebrating this radioshow I did a public transmission (with additional overdubs) at a new cultural venue in Oporto, Hotel 555.

GHUNAGANGH IS OUT!

My parallel project GHUNAGANGH alongside with my big companion and vocalist Rey, has finally seen the light of the day after one year of work. This is a crossover record paying debt to some of our extreme musical influences and mostly, a cathartic way of expelling some personal demons and social and environmental concerns on a contemporary and paranoid fusion.
The physical release was kept true to the essence of the project. No tapes, no cd’s, no vinyl. We designed a Patchwork. Each patchwork is sold with a download code for a digital version of the album. Edition is limited to 100 and is almost sold out.

During the 4th and the 5th of January I took part in one of most important events about the free and independent “industry” in Spain. On the first hand as a representative member of the Chili Com Carne association. On the second as the guy who made this. The festival went very well, great people everywhere and great works to see and buy (zines, books, 7″‘s, and some nice gigs, etc etc) (despite the cops coming on the first day)
